My father & his friends
My father & his friends
I would like to introduce to you my father, Sher Afzal Khan (Barikoti). He is a writer, poet and historian. A man of great integrity, & sound Pukhtoon character. He has worked hard all his life for the betterment of others, a fact borne out in his handiwork – which ranges from his published contribution to Pushto literature and poetry, to his ongoing project, the Masjid Bab-Ul-Islam & Madrasa Elm-Ul-Quran, currently being built in Swat. Surprisingly my father’s knowledge is not the result of a formal university degree but stems from hard work & dedication. He is self-taught scholar. His Pushto books include, 1. Da Pukhto Sher Wa Adab Tarikh 2. Pir Baba 3. Bayyazid Ansari - Pir Rokhan 4. Dub Duba Khushal (Da Khushal Khan Khattak pa qalam yaw nazar) 5. Andaleeb-e-Swat - Hafiz Al Puri 6. Sakhuntaraz - Abdul Hameed Momand 7. Zam Zama Rehman (Rehman Baba da khpal qalam pa ra na ki) Urdu texts include, 1. Taruf-e-Swat 2. Hakim-e-Hamdard awr Tanha Musafir Three of these books were awarded gold medals by the Abasin Adabi Arts Council, and the book ‘Da Pukhto Sher Wa Adab Tarikh’ is on the Pushto MA literature course in Peshawar University. Unlike many in the academic field, my father is also known widely outside his sphere of interest. He has an extensive social circle, & this web site lets you meet my father and some of his friends though his photo album. You will see some very famous faces. Please note this album is not complete. There are many more photographs that are being added, so keep a regular eye on this site. In the meantime, enjoy a short trip through recent Pukhtoon history, with my father Sher Afzal Khan (Barikoti) as your guide!
